VIJAYNAGARA EMPIRE


The vijaynagara empire was established by Harihara and Bukka in 1936 beside tungabhadra .

The vijaynagar dynasty was ruled by four dynasties Sangama ,  Saluva , Tuluva , Aravidu.

During its peak it extent from krishna tungbhadra basin in north to whole southern peninsula.

       POLITICAL HISTORY 

Harihara I  , was the first ruler of the sanagam dynasty. An inscription dated 1346 regarding a grant to the sringeri matha describes harihara I as the ruler of the " while country between the eastern and western seas " and vidya nagar ( the city of learning) as his capital . 

It lasted until 1646 . Although it's power declined after its capital city of vijaynagar, whose ruins surround present day Hampi , now a world heritage site in karnataka. 

      GOVERNMENCE & ADMINISTRATION 

The efficient administration and vigorous overseas trade brought new technologies to the region such as water management system for irrigation. 

             ECONOMY 

The economy of the empire was largely dependent on agriculture. Sorting,  cotton ,and pulse grew in semi- arid regions , while sugarcane and wheat thrive in rainy season.

         CULTURE AND SOCIAL LIFE 

The hindu caste system was prevalent and it influenced daily life in empire. The rulers who occupied the top of this hierarchy assumed the honorific varnasramadharma. 

               DEFEAT & DECLINE 
Eventually the Deccan sultanas to the north of vijaynagar United and attacked Aliya ram's army in January 1565 in the battle of talikota.After Aliya rama ray's death, tirumala deva raya started the aravidu dynasty,  founded a new capital of penukonda to replace the destroyed hampi and attempted to reconstitute the remains of vijaynagar empire.
